Congratulations! You've already moved the region forward by signing up for the Greater Richmond Challenge. But don't stop there.

In its third year, the Challenge is all about civic engagement and the start of an intense conversation. For two days, you will meet some of the region's leaders, learn from knowledgeable experts on top issues, and get to know a group of Richmonders who, like you, have a curiosity and interest in the local world around us. The Challenge offers a front-row seat for a close examination of what makes the region tick and what can be done to make our quality of life here even better. You'll also get a chance to dig deeper into many of the conclusions reached this year by Dr. James A. Crupi in his much-talked-about scorecard on the region, "Putting the Future Together."

For several months, a passionate volunteer group of planners has been working with the Greater Richmond Chamber to design the 2008 program. The Greater Richmond Challenge's goal is to inspire you to think more deeply about your hometown. You'll travel, listen, reflect, debate, reload with more facts and observations, and then help build a consensus on what opportunities are really important for this region to seize.

We ask you to leave your comfort zone at times by putting yourself in the shoes of members of various demographic groups that compose our region. We encourage you to ask questions to uncover new knowledge about Greater Richmond as you move from discussion to discussion. We want you to get to know as many, if not all, of your fellow Challengers. And, we expect you to experience several revelations, encounter a revolutionary thought or two, and then return to the resolution of what needs to be done for our community to move forward as an outstanding place to live.

There's one more recommendation. Have fun in the process! We want you to leave the Greater Richmond Challenge charged up to do great things on behalf of our region.

We also don't want you to stop with a just challenge.

Sincerely,

Tom Silvestri
